“A well established family seeks a WELL CULTURED, FAIR , BEAUTIFUL and TALL bride for their banker son !”
Sounds familiar right! How many times have we fallen for the idea of being fair to be considered as the highest benchmark for beauty. I know the feeling because I have struggled all through my childhood being compared to my elder sister and being called as ‘kaali’ or ‘dark skinned’. And by the way who sets these benchmarks ? The ridiculous benchmarks for beauty !
I remember as a child I always wanted to be fair and would struggle a lot to accept myself the way I am. And this phase continued till I entered college when I actually decided I am going to invest in self love and self acceptance. Yes it was a journey not an easy one though. Along side there was constant bullying by other students and it took me a giant leap of strength to ignore all of that and just focus on my own growth.
Today when I look back I thank god and my determination for those tough times and whoever is reading this I just want to say one thing; you are wonderful and beautiful just the way you are. How you see yourself is more important than how the world sees you.
If you want to change, change for yourself, change for better but never ever let anyone make you feel that you are not worthy because of your skin colour or where you belong to .
On that note, keep loving yourself , keep evolving !
